Giwa Egbe

Hon. Adebayo Adebiyi Osikomaiya is the Giwa Egbe Obayori (Okunrin) Akile Ijebu.

Giwa Osikomaiya is from Ijebu Igan under the Ijebu-East Central LCDA and was born into the family of Late Taiwo & Alaba Osikomaiya on 23rd of July, 1978. He is the second of five sons of the family.

Giwa Osikomaiya started his education at St. Johns Primary School, Palm Groove Lagos and had a short stay at St. Johns Secondary School, Bode-Thomas, Lagos State before transferring to Lagos State Model School Igbokuta, Ikorodu, Lagos State where he was the Assistant Senior Prefect of the 1995 set.

In September, 1995 Giwa Osikomaiya began studying law at Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye now Olabisi Onabanjo University. On graduation, he was among the pioneer set of the Nigeria Law School Bagauda, Kano State and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He has since attended several courses in Nigeria and around the world on law, leadership, mortgages, strategies and politics.

Giwa Osikomaiya practised law for a few years but switched to banking with Ecobank Nigeria Plc having had his youth service with the Central Bank of Nigeria, Benin, Edo State. His banking career cuts across operations, marketing, product development, exports and mortgages. Giwa Osikomaiya became the Head of Mortgages at Ecobank Nigeria Plc in 2008 before transferring his expertise to Providus bank Nigeria Plc as one of their pioneer staff where he was Head of Products Development & Strategy at exit in 2016.

In 2016 at the age of 38years, he was elected as the First Executive Chairman of the Ijebu-East Central Local Council Development Area, a position which he holds till date. Giwa Osikomaiya is very much interested in the development of Ijebu land and Ogun State and this has accounted for his continuous investment in physical projects and development of people. He has won several awards as an Executive Chairman some of which include:

  • Ijebu East Community Award for community Service in Ijebu East LG in Dec. 2015
  • Award of Honour by NYSC batch A in March, 2017
  • African Citizens Organisation for Development (ACOD) President recognition Award
  • Best Local Government Chairman by Student Representative Council of Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu in April, 2017
  • Award and Induction into the hall of fame by West African Polytechnics Student Union(WAPSU) in May, 2017
  • Award of Excellence as an Icon of Humanity /Societal Development by National Association of Nigerian Students in 2017
  • Distinguish Award of Excellence by St. Marys Primary School, Ijebu –Imusin &Adebayo Adekanbi Foundation in July, 2017
  • Award of Honour by National Council of Women Society Nigeria, Ijebu East Chapter in Sept. 2017
  • Award of Excellence & Icon of Humanity in Nigeria by Congress of Nigeria Youths in Dec. 2017
  • National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Ijebu-East Outstanding Leadership Award in February, 2018
  • Ogun State Heritage Award as best serving LG/LCDA Chairman in Ogun State in May, 2018.
  • Appreciation award by Anglican Girls Grammar School Jnr. in July, 2018

Youth involvement and development gets his attention and this has enabled him get involved in youth developmental projects. He runs a campaign for youth active involvement in politics and supports youths towards achieving their educational goals.

He is a strong supporter of Arsenal football club and enjoys reading. A natural socialite, he enjoys attending social functions and over the years his friends have given him several nick names some of which are Popo, Oshiko, Apagunpote, Popo1dagov.

Giwa Osikomaiya has demonstrated exemplary leadership since the members of Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu entrusted him with the leadership position of Giwa Egbe in 2017. Among his feats include successfully securing royal blessings from the Awujale and securing the AKILE status for the regberegbe.

Giwa Osikomaiya is happily married to Dr. Mrs. Bodunrin Ibitola Osikomaiya and the marriage is blessed with two handsome boys and a pretty daughter.
