Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu (1977, 1978 & 1979)
Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu was formally recognized as a regberegbe group by the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Adetona, on Tuesday 14th August 2018 at an elaborate ceremony at the palace of the Awujale.
The Egbe came into existence in 2016 when a group of six friends came together to promote brotherhood and fraternity among themselves as is prevalent and encouraged in Ijebuland. The first meeting saw Abdulkabir Olayeni emerge as the regberegbe Coordinator and subsequently the drive to attract friends and acquaintances of like minds began. This drive was very successful as within the first year the Egbe grew rapidly and as at the day the Awujale gave his blessings, the number of registered members was ninety-nine.
The main objectives of the Egbe is to attract hardworking men of honour and for the advancement of friendship through community development activities, social gatherings, fellowship and cooperation for the general development of Akile Ijebu and particularly the Egbe members. Quite aptly, the motto of Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu is “For Service & Integrity”.
The Egbe is led administratively by the Giwa – In – Council comprising the Giwa, Otun – Giwa, Eta – Giwa and the Executives. In addition, the leadership of the Egbe has a Council of Chiefs, the Oloyes, who provide vision, motivate, inspire and empower the Egbe with the support of the Giwa.
Members of Egbe Obayori Okunrin AKILE Ijebu can be found in many sectors of the Nigerian economy including politics, academics, engineering, oil and gas, banking, media and events, fashion and design, construction, garment care, federal and state civil service, metal works, shipping and logistics, law, medicine and various other economic sectors.
Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu is set to raise the bar of ‘service to the community’ through the various Community Development Projects that will be rolled out in the coming years. The Egbe’s vision is to become a reference point for citizen participation in the community service, basic infrastructure and social cultural development of Akile Ijebu.
